Craps is one of the most intimidating looking games in the casino. It looks like something better left to the hardcore players, but it's really pretty simple. Yes, you too can learn to play craps.
Almost all the exotic looking bets on the table should have two words printed next to them: "stay away."
In craps, you can bet on the pass line by placing your chips in the thin pass line strip that runs all around the table. You win immediately if the dice shooter rolls 7 or 11 and lose immediately if the shooter rolls 2, 3 or 12. If the shooter rolls any other number, that number is the shooter's "point," and you win if the shooter rolls his point again before he rolls a 7.
If the shooter does roll one of the point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), you have an opportunity to make an "odds" bet, which you place immediately behind your pass line bet. Usually this odds bet can be larger than your pass line bet.

A simple craps system, with the best odds on the table follows.
Decide the maximum amount you want to bet at any given time before you hit the table. Get your heart pumping, but don't lose the family farm. Like all casino games, the odds on craps are against you.
Once you've picked your cap, place as little of it as possible into action as a pass line bet and as much of it as possible into action as an odds bet.
When making your odds bet, make sure you bet a number that will result in an even payoff. For example, if the shooter's point is 9, don't make a $5 or $15 odds bet. The house pays fair odds on this point, 3-2, but when you bet $5 the correct payoff is $7.50, and the craps table may not have quarters or half dollars, so you may only get paid $7. Bet an even number so the house doesn't round off your payment.
It may be difficult to find a $5 minimum craps table. No worries. If the table minimum is $15, betting only $15 on the pass line, with no odds bet, may be the smartest way to play; even though the casino charges no house edge on odds bets, putting, say, another $30 into play as an odds bet puts a lot of of money at risk with every throw of the dice.
Every other bet on the table offers inferior odds to this pass line/odds combination. Every one...
If you want to put more money into action, the best way is by making "come" bets and taking odds on them. A come bet offers exactly the same odds as a pass line bet, so isn't an inferior wager, just puts more money at risk. If you want action on more than just one number, the come bet option is by far the best way to go.
