7 Card Stud Rules7 card stud was probably the most popular form of poker until Texas Hold'Em took hold in recent years. 7 card stud is still very popular in home games and will often be played using wild cards. 7 card stud is also played online, usually in its standard form: The game usually begins with each player paying an ante into the pot. Each player is then dealt 3 cards. 2 cards are dealt face down which only the player can see. The third is dealt face up for all to see. The Bring-In BetThe player with lowest card showing must make what is called the "bring-in bet". The amount of this bet will depend on the stakes you are playing. You can choose to make this bet, which will be slightly higher than the ante, or make a full sized bet. For example, in a $3-$6 game with a bring-in bet of $1, you can choose to bet either $1 or $3. When identifying the player with the lowest card who will make the bring-in bet, the ranking of suits can come into play. Spades are the highest suit, the hearts, diamonds and clubs. For example, if one player has 4 spades and another has 4 diamonds, the player with the 4 diamonds would make the bring-in bet. The round of betting then continues. The next player to act (the player to the left of the bring-in bet) can choose to fold, call the bring-in bet or raise to the standard bet (in a $3-$6 game this will be $3). Once the round of betting is complete, a fourth card, known as "fourth street" is dealt to each player, face up. After the cards have been dealt a second round of betting begins, this time starting with the player with the highest hand showing on their face up cards. Unlike the first round of betting, there is no bring-in bet. The player can either bet or check. Again, when identifying the highest hands, in the event of a tie, the ranking of suits comes into play. Bets and raises in the betting round after fourth street are usually for the smaller betting amount. For example, in $3-$6 game, bets and raises would be in $3 increments. However, if the player has made a pair with their first 2 upturned cards, then they can choose o bet the larger amount, in this case $6. As soon as a $6 bet is made, further raises are made at $6 increments. Next, a fifth card is dealt, again face up. There is another round of betting, now at the higher betting amount ($6 in our $3-$6 example). The sixth card is the same as the fifth - dealt face up with another round of betting, starting with the player with the highest hand showing. The final card(seventh street or the river) is dealt face down. You can then make your best five card poker hand out of your seven cards. Again, there is a final round of betting.
